Digital Photography Final

For my final project, I originally wanted to do another sort of narrative. The ‘behind the scenes’ and creation of something interests me more than the piece itself. Watching behind the scenes for movies is what made me become an animation major. I am also a painter with an interest in body paint and wanted to do something adjacent to painting and storytelling by having flowers bloom out of my leg. I like the idea of having something that represents beauty sprouting out of something bloody and horrifying. The juxtaposition that it brings really interests me.
But, as the project progressed over three separate shoots, I ditched the narrative idea and developed a collection of weird and slightly off-putting images. The focus is solely on my leg and the background is just black so that there is nothing distracting you from the subject of the photo. The reason for flowers is that when describing them the words beautiful and pretty come to mind for so many people. I wanted to use the juxtaposition of something pretty being in a bloody or gross scenario to reflect on duality. The silver linings narrative. Something good can come from something bad.
